The shopping center is part of a more than $500 million investment, surrounded by the Kansas Speedway, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Great Wolf Lodge, Phoenix Theatres at the Legends 14, Cabela's and CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Legends at Village West is still an ongoing project as there are still many more developments still planned, including a $705 million Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The shopping center offers more than 110 retail/restaurant outlets including Dave & Busters and a Saddle Ranch Chop House, one of only five in the United States.
The Legends at Village West includes an audio walking tour of the more than 80 Kansans who are represented visually on medallions, posters, murals and in sculpture throughout the center. The Legends honors legends of Kansas in athletics, music, exploration, science, technology, politics, art and other fields. The Legends theme is interwoven throughout the facility, offering information about Kansas’ history, heritage and environment. Each corridor and courtyard of the center is dedicated to a particular category of famous Kansans or aspect of the state and its history. Beginning February 1, 2007, a free self-guided audio tour will lead visitors through each corridor, providing information about the legends and the artistic representations in which they are depicted. Zona Rosa is an approximately 500,000 square feet, mixed-use (retail, office and residential) development located in Kansas City, Platte County, Missouri. The project opened in 2004 and is expected to be expanded by an additional 500,000 square feet by early 2008. It was developed by Steiner+Associates known for their Easton Town Center development in Columbus, Ohio.
Zona Rosa is an example of a new trend in retail development where traditional regional malls are replaced by mixed-use projects featuring residential, office and/or hospitality uses in a high density urban environment organized around traditional street grids. St. Louis Mills, is a shopping center in Hazelwood, Missouri, just off of Route 370. When it opened in November 2003, it had over 200 specialty shops and 8 anchor stores. It is a venture investment by developer and former owner, Mills Corporation that offers many retail stores and entertainment attractions. The newest addition to the Mills is a 130,000-square-foot Cabela's store that opened on April 13, 2007. Also in April 2007, The Mills Corp. merged into Simon Property Group; St. Louis Mills is their only property in the St. Louis area. In November The Children's Place opened, replacing Off 5th Saks Fifth Avenue, while also taking out one of the mall's side entrances making it a Children's Place Superstore. Source
